Structural Integration
in the Rolf Method

The Classic Dr. Ida Rolf Method of Structural Integration is a transformative and holistic approach to improving the body's structure and function. Developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf (1896-1979), it has roots in osteopathy, and Eastern yoga and combining the science of movement with the human embodied experience. Structural Integration (SI) is a hands-on healing therapy and somatic education that guides your body back into it’s natural state of alignment and balance in relation to the gravity field. It is a graceful system of creating improved order of basic anatomical functions through movement and safe touch - all to support your body to move and feel it’s very best.

Self Care
meets energy efficiency…

By hydrating and creating S P A C E  within your body's vast fascial web  and nervous system, the process of Structural Integration leads your body back to a  higher degree of functional alignment, improving daily movement while deepening your overall relationship with your body.

When your structure is properly aligned in gravity, you are held and supported by gravity. This is like your body switching into ‘energy saving mode’ where movements become more effortless. Now you have more energy circulating in your system to do the things you love most.

The Basic 10-Series

One of the distinguishing features of Dr. Rolf’s Structural Integration is her gift of the Ten-session series. A ten-series is designed to provide comprehensive self-care for your body, addressing both structure and function. The sessions are consecutive and work layer by layer from surface to deep.  Eventually we awaken and establish your center, a middle which falls inline with gravity and supports your body to navigate the world at its best.

The culmination of the ten-series is a profound awakening of your body’s innate ability to support you. It is both an empowering and educational journey. Through unwinding and organizing your system, this process offers deep, lasting changes that transcend beyond symptom relief. This in turn allows you to experience your body in a more connected, curious way, while promoting your physical, emotional and energetic well-being.

The integrative process of a ten-session series offers a pathway to a balanced, aligned, and supportive body. As you engage in this introspective journey, you provide yourself with the ultimate self-care, allowing your body to function at its finest with grace and ease. Healing is your natural state of being. Working together we can guide your body back to balance in a gentle yet profound way.

The commitment to a process is key for healing results. While the initial 10 sessions lay the foundation for big and important changes, post-integration time is just as profound; it allows the body to absorb & harmonize the changes made during the sessions. It is not uncommon to feel the biggest shifts in your body weeks and months after finishing the series. This is because your system continues to process and assimilate as you move on throughout your life. Walking is a great tool to allow and feel your system integrate!

Who Can Benefit

Q & A

Does Rolf method bodywork hurt?

No, This work should not hurt and is not meant to be painful. “No pain No game” is an outdated model that will not support your system in safe healing. I prefer to work at the speed dictated by your tissue and nervous system. We will work with your nervous system and not on it. If some sticky or forgotten areas are feeling more sensitive and intense for you than others, we will move slowly with your breath guiding the way. This is your safe space to heal. I vow to honor your body and boundaries.

What is best to wear to a session?

Women (all who identify female) - sports bra and athletic shorts or bra top and full coverage undies/boy shorts.

Men (all who identify male) - boxer briefs, athletic shorts, swim shorts

*Dress comfortable with items that offer full coverage, cling to the body and also have some stretch.

Can I come for just one session?

YES of course!

Do I have to do the 10- session series?

You do not! I always suggest for new clients to come in for one session. After we meet, we will have a better idea how we can work together to create a healing plan that meets your needs.

I’d like to give myself the gift of the 10 series! How often should I plan to come in?

Once a week is usually a good pace for integration; however every body and situation is unique.

How does Structural Integration differ from massage?

While both are very therapeutic and healing SI utilizes different techniques and approach than massage therapy. There is an intention in structural bodywork to work holistically with the fascia to organize the body within gravity. Sessions are relaxing but interactive as this is your healing journey - I’m here to guide and support.

Can I receive SI if I’m pregnant?

Yes! SI bodywork is a lovely support before/after/during pregnancy. Of course how we work will be different. It is not a time for a 10 series or inviting big changes rather a time to support and give space for you and baby to expand into.

How soon after giving birth can I receive a session or a series?

Receiving supporting sessions is generally safe. However, it’s always best to reach out so we can chat about your specific situation, as it will vary. It can be recommended to wait 3-6 months post-partum before starting a full 10 series.
